Review of Space for Growth (Spire Station, #3) by Emily Antoinette

As soon as I picked up Space for Growth, the third installment in Emily Antoinette’s Spire Station series, I felt a rush of excitement. Having followed Emily’s work for some time, I have always admired her talent for weaving intricate tales with deeply relatable characters, especially within the queer community that resonates with my own experiences. I knew I was in for an adventure that was as heartwarming as it was steamy, and oh, how it delivered!

In Space for Growth, we dive back into the vibrant universe of Spire Station, where the anxious Paul meets the confident Hadrell. Their relationship, characterized by a patient kind of love, embodies the series’ delightful exploration of found family. It also explores tender dynamics between characters that care for one another, reminding readers just how powerful affectionate support can be. Watching Paul navigate his anxiety while being lovingly grounded by Hadrell brought tears to my eyes—heartfelt, relatable, and oh-so-human.

The writing itself is rich and captivating. Emily has a gift for creating an atmosphere that feels immersive yet intimately familiar. I was thrilled with how the pacing built slowly at first, allowing ample space for character connections to flourish before diving headfirst into the action. Each character had their unique quirks, and they felt so genuine that I found myself cheering for them as if they were my friends. This depth is especially noticeable in side characters like Bre’tu, whose serious demeanor juxtaposed with amusing moments added wonderfully to the dynamics among the group. I couldn’t help but smile at Bre’tu’s interactions with Paul, particularly during the moments that highlighted the humor underlying their support for one another.

One of my favorite moments was the banter surrounding the Sela night blossom drink. The quote, “They call it a Sela night blossom because it tastes like licking the slick from between a Seladin’s thighs,” left me roaring with laughter! This kind of unapologetic humor paired with intimate scenes made for an unforgettable reading experience. Similarly, Paul’s accidental shout about his affection for "cum" in a crowded bar epitomizes the delightful awkwardness of love and attraction—it’s relatable and wonderfully affirming to see these moments captured on the page.

When it comes to the spice level, be prepared—Emily does not hold back! The delightful tension between Hadrell and Paul kept me on the edge of my seat, proving that intimacy and vulnerability can be intertwined. The emotional payoff was overwhelmingly satisfying, and I found myself lost in their connection, both tender and electric.

In conclusion, Space for Growth is perfect for readers who enjoy the likes of Ruby Dixon’s Ice Planet Barbarians series. It’s a celebration of queer love, patience, and the beauty of found families that cultivate true growth. I wholeheartedly recommend this book if you’re looking for a sci-fi adventure filled with action, laughter, and passion—one that will leave you wanting to revisit its pages.

If you’ve already read it, I’d love to hear your thoughts! Let’s connect over this delightful universe Emily has crafted! 🌌💖
